Clarksdale Chiropractic now in Business!

I am located on Elm Ave (108)...the little peach house almost on the corner and I will be taking appts starting Monday, May 1st, 2009.

My phone number is : 1 800 381 2306....it follows me every where!
My hours are open: however, I cant meet you too late as I now live in Sumner!
Appt only: I have to take appts cause right now I am a one man band. I will be doing some therapy that may take an hour or two so an appt. is necessary. However, if an emergency should arise, I will get back to you as soon as possible. If anyone knows me well enough, they know that I do everything 100% and I am very responsible to my pts.
Sat appt: I will have some sat hours and we are working on hours for Dr. Peter. (see insurance).
Services offered: I do Chiropractic adjusting - the old fashioned way. I do many techniques depending on the pt to include activator, SOT, diversified and others.
Other services: I also love massage - to give and to get. I taught massage for awhile and still teach continuing education to therapists. There are many techniques for many types of diagnosis and just for relaxation.
Other services: Cold Laser Therapy: This is awesome and is the number one tool use in Europe for soft tissue injuries. It was FDA approved for Carpal tunnel, then arthritis and then for pain relief. I have also had great response with peripheral neuropathies, neuromas, all kinds of arthrtitis, shingles, and many other tissue and muscular -ligament problems. This is painless and takes only a few minutes. Unbelievable. I also taught seminars on cold laser and was the first Doc in S.C. to get a laser. I will be glad to send you to some websites that will go into more details on the instrument and treatment.
Other Services: I do a few other physical therapy modalities depending on the diagnosis, although we use Physical therapy as an adjunct to the Chiropractic treatment. I also like to explain exercises and PT therapies for home treatment. However, I do like to work with the local PT as some therapy may be extensive.
Other Services: Ear Candling This is a natural, non-intrusive procedure that may help alleviate the painful effects of chronic headaches or sinus conditions, ear infections, allergies or vertigo, as well as minor hearing loss due to excessive earwax build up. Sometimes it is part of the massage procedure, facial and sinus drainage massage. It is also very relaxing.
Other Services:Nutritional Analysis: This is a great software program through Biotics Pharmaceutical and available to Doctors only. I have worked with these people for many years and I believe they have the best products on the market. The great part about this analysis is that it tells you what you need from answering a series of questions. No guessing and wondering about what products to take, where to get the products and what is good for you. I will get the best prices avaliable.
X-Rays: I do not have an X ray machine and would like to 'borrow' X rays or X ray report if available or send you to the hospital for pictures. However, if this is not an option, I will ask you to sign a waiver as I think diagnostic testing is important and will discuss it with each individual case.
Insurance/Payment: We are not taking insurance assignment at this time, although we are working on it. We will hopefully have Dr. Peter on board as a provider and perhaps see pts on some Sat. Once these steps are taken, (Malpractice ins application, hospital Privileges , providership applications, ect.), we will have a vehicle for insurance filing. Chiropractic is covered under some policies, but obviously the Medical providership will cover more.
In the meantime, we will give our patients superbills with all of the proper information for them to file to the insurance company to be immediately reimbursed by their companies as outlined in their plan. This REIMBURSEMENT will go Directly to the patient.
Our Fees:

Chiropractic manipulation and one therapy: $40
Massage therapy: 30 min: $30
Massage therpay : 60 min: $60
Cold Laser Therapy: $25 per session of max. 15 min.
Ear Candling: $50 including cost of candles and sinus massage
Physical therapy: $15 per modality
Nutritional Analysis : Free - product list with fees will be given upon request.
Free Consultations may be available

If you want an appointment or have any questions or comments, you can email me at virgindoc@yahoo.com

Back to Work: Clarksdale Chiropractic & Massage

Time to get back to where I came from. I have been a Lic. Chiro in Miss. since 1979 (telling my age, eh?) and I have lic. in 4 other states. I was practicing Chiro in S.C., but when we moved to Miss. a few years ago, I went into teaching massage & medical assisting. (I also teach online for health care professionals including Nurses and Docs.) I have a med. degree (and so does Peter)...but I figure one Lic. MD in the house was enough so I went back to Chiro after Med school and clinical rotation at LSU. Having the knowledge really helps me in understanding medical histories and diagnosis. It also helps having a practicing medical doc in the house!

I have been toying with the idea and working on a location, however, I think for the meantime and for a temporary location, I will be working out of my Elm Ave house...great location and the price is right for now. I am waiting on the Chamber incubation package...would like to do other things such as on hands classes, support groups and continuing educational classes. I have applied for a grant with Public Health to do some seminars so keep your fingers crossed.

Fifth Grader and Guitar Mikey

Fifth Grader, Chris Hartcock, won 3rd prize in the Juke Joint Writing Contest. He was surprised when his idol, Guitar Mikey was there at the award ceremony on Sunday. His submission, “Cool Blues”, expressed his friendship for his favorite Blues Musician. This years Juke Joint Writing Contest’s theme was “Keeping the Blues Alive”. Chris is a student at St. George’s Episcopal School.

Condo for sale or rent: Biloxi

Another reason we are cash poor is the fact that we have 2 condos in Biloxi...both are up for sale and have recently been used by the church for their volunteers. They are both furnished and the unit has a pool and is 1/4 mile from the beach and about 1 mile from the casino. Anybody need a little vacation in Biloxi, let me know. We rent cheap! But only to people we know. So get to know us.! :)

House for Sale or Rent in Clarksdale

Hi there...we've moved again! Can you believe it...? I think I must have ants in my pants! Anyway we love our new home and I think I am in hog heaven...my new house is huge (the old Henderson Home) and very beautiful. THe backyard is like paradise!

I really do miss my Elm Ave house. We really fixed it up nice..I think I have pics on this blog of the before and after. I also liked my garden and miss my neighbors. (especially Robin!)

So we have it up for sale and are set to take a whippin...but we also will entertain a renter (maybe).

Ck it out...its a great deal. In the meantime we redid the beautiful wood floors and put up a new chandelier in the dining room. Call me if you have a lead. Or call my real estate agent Deborah Luster.

Parchman Prison Tour

Delta Writers Association Hosts Parchman Prison Tour

The Mississippi Writers Guild presents the spring writers retreat here in Clarksdale, Mississippi on May 30th, 2009. Part of the weekend’s events will include a free tour of the local Parchman Penitentiary, located about forty miles from Clarksdale in Sunflower County. The writers have received special permission for a guided tour through the prison on Friday, May 29th from 10 am to 1 pm. Parchman Penitentiary is the oldest prison in the State of Mississippi, being in existence since 1901. It is also the only maximum security prison for men in the state and houses nearly 5,000 prisoners including the male prisoners on death row.

The prison has been the subject of many articles, books and songs. The experience at Parchman became a symbol of many African- Americans in the Delta through the Blues music. Bukka White, who served time at the facility in 1939, wrote the legendary tale of despair in the song “Parchman Farm Blues”. Prisoners kept rhythm on the chain gang, during farming and to the guards with a cadence melody often called ‘chain gang songs”.

The “White Chief”, the then Governor of Mississippi, James K. Vardaman, was determined to run the newly developed Parchman Prison Farm, "like an efficient slave plantation." This way of prison slavery was expressed in the songs and writings of the Delta. The famous song “Midnight Special” would tell about the train that ran between Parchman and Jackson, Mississippi every Saturday night carrying wives and lovers to visit the convicts.

Parchman was also known for its execution methods, sometimes being very inefficient. By 1940s executioner Jimmy Thompson appeared and was contracted out by Parchman to use the “killing machine”, an electric chair mounted on the back a pick up truck. Sunflower County did not want the stigma of ‘Death County’ so they voted on this portable execution “show” to take place in the prisoner’s residing county. This mobile electric chair was used until 1955.

Later as segregation was implemented and whites and blacks were no longer housed separately, riots and racially activated gang activities became a major problem. Even the Freedom Riders, James Farmer and Stokley Carmichael, were temporarily housed at Parchman.

Later the institution was revised partially due to action by a federal judge, William Keady. Rehabilitation through business and farming are still the main focus at Parchman Penitentiary, however, the prison as in all Mississippi State Prisons, are under National and State Prison guidelines.

Parchman Penitentiary is an icon in the Delta and a very big part of the history and music of the South. If you would like to learn more or register for the tour, you must have a valid identification and sign a waver. There are a list of rules and regulations on the DWA blog at http://deltawritersassociation.blogspot.com/ or call Virginia Schafer at 1 800 381 2306. Only the first thirty five people that register will be accepted for the tour so get your reservations in early if you are interested.

Update - my hobbies

Well as you all know I keep busy...I love my Community Bible study group and I am so sad that it has ended for the summer. I hope we get together over the break!

Also I am happy to be so involved in the DWA, the Delta Writers Association, writing has been my passion and hobby...and there are so many opportunities and talent in the Delta. We just concluded the awards for the Juke Joint Writing Contest and I will post some of the pics and winners. They will also be on our deltawritersassociation website.

The Friends of the Library is a great organization as well. Gosh there are so many projects to get into here.

And then we moved...we are now in the beautiful town , but small town of Sumner, about 20 min from Clarksdale. It is now a little challenge to go to the store, etc. but it seems like I am always on the road anyway. This also gives me opportunity to explore other places such as Charleston, Greenwood and Cleveland.
